I saw Xmen 3 tonight
I decided to put what I thought about it behind a cut, it's not too lengthy but it's spoilery so go ahead and read if you'd like..
The movie had really good special effects, good actors, and interesting new characters but there were some things I found wrong with it.
I read the comic since I was 8, I stopped reading them when I was (I think) 14, so I don't know what happened in the comic after I stopped reading it but I know for a fact that Dark Phoenix was not Jean Grey's split personality. That was such bull. They had to screw that up. And she get all veiny and ugly in the movie, in the comic she was all fiery and to be quite honest.. kinda cool looking (I even have the Phoenix doll here somewhere along with my Spiderman doll from way back when). I had a major problem with how they portrayed Jean/The Phoenix. It was not even close to the comic I think.
And I don't remember her killing off the Professor AND Scott. I'm pretty sure I would have remembered it. If she did, let me know, but I don't think she did.
I know I'm going to have a lot of people wanting to kill me for this but I loved the whole Logan/Jean thing since the beginning. I loved the end where he told her that he loved her, and then "saved her" like she asked him to. Now, I don't think she should've died. I was very disappointed that she died. They shouldn't have ended the movie like that. I'm a corny romantic type person so after her told her that he loved her, my corny romantic side wanted them to be together.
Another issue I had was Rogue not having her powers at the end. I was SO MAD. I believe in the comic she went to find a cure and then came back later on and still had it. My memory is kinda blah right now when it comes to the comic book but I remember her still having her powers when I stopped reading it. She gave it all up for some stupid guy? That's pathetic. She doesn't even know if they'll be together later on.
There's a lot of stuff they could've added, changed, or removed from the movie. Logan shouldn't have had to kill Jean in order to "save her." That's just too tragic for me. I love tragedies but I was holding back tears throughout the entire movie, that part just made me want to cry so hard.
Overall, I think I like the first and second Xmen better storyline wise. In my opinion, they did this just to screw with the original Xmen fans and squeeze it all into one movie so they don't have the spend the money on 2 more movies (which I think they should so we could see some Gambit action in there, what happened with Magneto, etc.). I would have payed to see 2 more Xmen movies cause I've been waiting for more exciting things to happen (like in the comic, they had some GREAT bad guys, battles, romances, etc.) and it's a huge disappointment that nothing else is going to happen. Makes me want to go to the store and buy the newest Xmen comics (if they're any good, I hope they still are since the last time I read them 6 years ago) and cheer myself up.

i pretty much agree with everything you said. it sums it up for me.
X-Men n00b speaks....
crazy!Phoenix was super scary, but I kinda liked the way she looked. True, that's not how Phoenix should look (I am not familiar with the series at all beyond what little I've seen of the new-ish T.V. show), but I thought it was a cool special effect. They should use it for the upcoming movie Tithe.
I think one of the reasons they had to smush it all together is people aren't used to movies coming in anything larger than a trilogy (with the exception of Harry Potter, and I suppose to a certain extent Star Wars). As a person who knows pretty much nothing about the comic outside a few character names, I probably would've been a bit incredulous myself at more than three. Although yeah, I liked the earlier ones much better.
Re: X-Men n00b speaks....
It's always nice hearing other's opinions. And at the end of the movie it seemed like Magneto was starting to get his powers back so maybe it's a sign that the cure only lasted for a little while? I don't know but I've been thinking about it cause it would make sense to have it only work for a while.
I'm thinking they got the schizo personality from the Phoenix Force aspect. Instead of the Phoenix Force and Jean, she'll just be a schizoid instead. But the way X2 was set up, I totally believed it would follow the original Dark Phoenix story before they came up with that damn excuse to bring Jean back to life ala Phoenix Force.
I still think it should have been Scott at the end with Jean killing herself. XD;;
I don't like the whole schizo thing. That bothered me. When I read the comics she didn't have the whole schizo thing going on, it was just the phoenix.
did you stay after all the credits? cause I didn't get to see what happened afterwords, I heard something happened with the professor, and with Jean.. but I don't know. Wish someone could tell me in detail.
Yeah. It's nothing special. You can find it all over You Tube. XD

and that clip was different, nothing worth staying for. Thanks for the link!
